FitSmart is a personalized online diet, exercise and health diary. It is a tool that helps dieters monitor their weight loss and related health data. Primarily a place to record food intake, FitSmart is supposed to help keep consumption in check and prevent “calorie amnesia” among dieters. FitSmart is one of a new type of online program that claims to aid in weight management where users regularly input personal food and exercise information. FitSmart is basically a personal diary and the keys to using it successfully is dedication and honesty. In this review, we will be taking a close look at the FitSmart website and what it has to offer to determine whether such a program would be worth the time and effort that users will be putting into it in terms of weight loss results. Concept This online diary is not only supposed to be a place to record personal day-to-day diet and exercise information. The program is marketed as an aid that may help dieters achieve their goals. After members enter details of the foods they have eaten, the website generates charts and reports based on the data submitted. FitSmart also offers a calorie counter which members can use as a tool in creating a diet or making changes accordingly. FitSmart boasts of its “surprisingly simple” weight loss concept which is—smart thinking, smart exercise and smart nutrition equal weight loss. Website The FitSmart website is able to track calories, fat, carbohydrate, fiber, and protein with around 19,000 Australian brand names and generic foods in the its database. FitSmart is not just a food log, it also provides users with meal plans and generates reports containing diet information about common foods which most consumers are not aware of. The diary feature is also said to have a comprehensive exercise library. Aside from those already mentioned, the other features included with the membership are: a customized shopping list, blog and personal profile. As of this review, FitSmart is no longer taking in members. In our opinion, although the website has several helpful features which dieters may appreciate, FitSmart may not actually aid in losing weight. Furthermore, keeping a food diary, whether a traditional one or online, requires dedication and serious commitment on the part of a dieter. FitSmart demands the same with its members and a lot of people may find this too tedious. Furthermore, FitSmart does not appear to be suitable for people who are genetically predisposed to gaining weight. We believe that the combination of “smart thinking” and exercise, although important, is not the most effective way to lose weight. Increasing the body’s metabolic rate and controlling calorie intake can significantly boost the amount of weight a dieter may lose. Keys: Diary Focused Offerings • Calories tracked with Food Diary • Creates personalized charts and reports Negatives • Currently not accepting new members FitSmart offers a novel way of keeping a food diary and dieters may have a lot of fun creating it. Those who are technologically savvy may find it particularly interesting. However, it appears that members do not actually benefit much in terms of weight loss. Moreover, as of this review, the website does not appear to be functioning properly. Keeping a food diary is a task that requires time and dedication, something which we doubt everyone would willingly do. At the same time, we also question the effectiveness of such an approach. For those who are interested in the calorie counting feature of this site, there are actually other websites that provide this service for free. People who are looking for a more proactive alternative may want to try a weight loss supplement in capsule form. Keeping a food diary may be aided by taking a product that contains an appetite suppressing ingredient and a patented metabolism booster such as Advantra-Z®.
